We compared the newly announced HUAWEI MatePad Pro 13.2-inch 2025 to the Apple iPad Pro 13 M4.
Team HUAWEI or team Apple?

To recap, the HUAWEI MatePad Pro 13.2-inch 2025 (PHP 64,990 price tag) is the company's flagship-level tablet with PC-level performance available in Premium Gold or Black at a 5.5mm ultra-thin body.

It also boasts a Flexible OLED PaperMatte Display offering a 13.2-inch screen with vivid graphics, reduced glare, and a writing experience similar to that of paper. It also has a wide color P3 gamut, 94 percent screen to body ratio, 2.8K 2880 x 1920 resolution, 144 Hz refresh rate, peak brightness of 1,000 nits along with 1.07 billion colors.

Inside, the handset is powered by the 2.5GHz Kirin T92 octa-core chip with Maleoon 920 graphics paired with 12GB RAM and a large 512GB storage.

At the back, you can find the 50MP main shooter with AF coupled with 8MP ultra-wide + LED flash. For selfies and video calls, it uses a 16MP sensor in front.

Other features noted are the 6x speakers and 4x microphones with HUAWEI Sound support and a side-mounted fingerprint reader.

Our thoughts

Both are amazing "pro-grade" tablets
Both are amazing "pro-grade" tablets

All in all, these two PC-like "pro" tablets have several similarities. You can expect portability, flawless performance, excellent displays, and ultimately, working conveniently anywhere, even for creatives.

But in this comparison, the HUAWEI MatePad Pro 13.2-inch 2025 has several hard-to-ignore advantages.

Besides having more reachable pricing compared to the iPad Pro 13, we find HUAWEI’s screen more to our liking with a larger dimension, narrow bezels, and the PaperMatte display that repels glaring and at the same time provides that smooth paper feel when scrolling through.

The MatePad Pro is more ideal for those looking for a more PC-like pro tablet. It is lighter than the iPad Pro 13 and laptops.

Like the iPad Pro 13 for Mac users, Windows users can use the HUAWEI MatePad Pro 13.2-inch 2025 as a secondary screen to their MateBook or even Windows laptops from other brands.

While the iPad Pro ranks among the best we tried, and it is equipped with one of the most powerful chips on a tablet, however, if we’re talking about which one is more bang for your buck, then we think it's the HUAWEI MatePad Pro 13.2 2025 for this one.

Note: The HUAWEI MatePad Pro 13.2-inch is priced at PHP 64,999, will be available for first sales starting from March 7 2025, with first sales freebies worth PHP 41,895, including a Smart Magnetic Keyboard, HUAWEI M-Pencil, HUAWEI FreeBuds Pro 3, PC-Level WPS Office, Bluetooth Mouse, and Trade-in Tokens worth PHP 8,000.

It is available at HUAWEI Store, Shopee, and Lazada online as well as physical HUAWEI Experience Stores.

Meanwhile, you can get the iPad Pro 13 for
PHP 94,990 online and offline with Apple Authorized Resellers.

NBI (National Bureau of Investigation) is plotting a "plan of action" against peddlers of fake news and disinformation in the country.

NBI to combat fake news peddlers

NBI Director Jaime Santiago emphasized that they will not allow this issue to go unchecked and are committed to conducting a thorough investigation. The agency added that they will check them, even those operating outside the Philippines.

At the "Meet the Manila Press" news forum, the agency noted that its cybercrime and technical intelligence unit would outline the government's next move in going after fake news bloggers and online trolls.

Santiago claims that they have already identified several trolls and their supposed links to prominent personalities. One of them is "Maharlika", a blogger suspected to be behind some fake and malicious news.

The blogger claimed that the First Lady was detained in the US. But, it is a piece of fake news according to Presidential Communications Office Undersecretary Claire Castro as the First Lady arrived in the Philippines on Monday, March 10.

Santiago also emphasized that while we have the freedom of speed and expression, it is not absolute. Bloggers should not make online commentaries as a kind of joke.

Announced last month, let's take a quick dive at CHERRY's Levitating speaker.
Watch: CHERRY Levitating Speaker Unboxing, First Impressions - Cool, decent sound (Taglish)
CHERRY Levitating Speaker

To recall, this is the brand's innovative take in creating a stylish audio peripheral that may elevate your desk or house's appearance.

As you can see, the moon-like or planet-like speaker's main highlight is the ability to levitate using magnets around the wooden. CHERRY notes that it can float by up to 20mm, providing you that cosmic-like effect when looking at it.
Levitates using magnets

The said speaker ball can also change the colors from Red, Green, Blue, Purple, and Pink depending on your preference.

Surprisingly, it can still float despite having a weight of 1.2 kilograms. It's amazing right?

It seamlessly pairs via Bluetooth 5.2 on your phone and has a 1,200mAh battery. For now, you'll have to wait on our full review to find out how long the speaker can last.

Despite its magical appearance, the audio device is able to produce decent 360-degree sound output for a novelty-style speaker.

Though there are better sounding "serious speakers" with better bass and less distortion in its price range.

Our thoughts

Generally, if you're someone not very particular on sound quality, this is more than good enough, such as for your daily streaming or watching TV shows online.

Additionally, it provides decent clarity but lacks slightly in terms of fullness of sound. It also has a wide soundstage despite only using a single speaker.

Finally, it can be worth it if you are someone looking for a "stylish novelty speaker".

You may purchase it at the CHERRY Shop for PHP 5,790 or through Shopee and Lazada.

HUAWEI's announcement

A Pura fold coming soon?

The event is set to highlight the launch of at least one new smartphone, as well as provide more insights into HarmonyOS Next. This will be the brand's first fully independent operating system, built without reliance on Android and powered by an in-house kernel.

Moreover, the event is expected to showcase the launch of the Pocket 3—a flip-style foldable smartphone. Rumors suggest it will feature a 6.28-inch foldable display with a distinctive 3:2 aspect ratio, offering a compact yet versatile design.

Some have likened the device to an iPad mini, but has the capability to fold, and given the event’s Pura theme, it could potentially join the Pura series lineup.

Huawei has also teased a new device in a promotional video, hinting at a rollable screen that expands horizontally. The teaser includes the number "1610," possibly indicating a 16:10 aspect ratio when the screen is fully extended.

Beyond smartphones, HUAWEI's Celia assistant is rumored to integrate DeepSeek capabilities, enhancing its functionality. The event may also unveil new wireless earbuds and a fresh addition to the Aito electric vehicle lineup.

Xiaomi 15 Unboxing, First Impressions, First Photo Samples - The best small Android phone?

$
0
0
The new global version of the Xiaomi 15 is now official and it is one of the most interesting mobile phones in the world for us right now.
Meet Xiaomi 15, the best small phone today?

With a 6.36-inch display and measuring at 152.3 x 72.2 x 8.08 mm, the Xiaomi 15 is considered tiny for a modern smartphone.

But despite its small size, it could be big in performance. On paper, the Xiaomi is equipped with strong specs, highly capable Leica-tuned cameras, and plenty of GenAI capabilities making it a good all-rounder on paper.

Let's unbox it, and here's what we initially thought about it.

Unboxing/Accessories

The box and what's inside
The box and what's inside

Xiaomi kept the box and packaging simple. It arrived in a white box with Xiaomi 15 text print with Leica logo.
The case freebie
The case freebie

Inside the box, you will immediately find the phone itself. The handset comes with a pre-installed screen protector to protect it from unwanted scratches, which is a good thing.

After that, you will see that they included a thin and light TPU case that fits perfectly to the phone, paper documentations, and SIM ejector tool. It also has a USB-C data and charging cable.

We got the EU version of the phone so it has no charging brick included. But if Xiaomi ever brings to the country, it'll have a power brick.

Build Quality/Design

Legit high-end build
Legit high-end build

The Xiaomi 15 boasts a minimalist yet ultra-premium feel and look around.

The device boasts a flat smudge-and-fingerprint-free frosted glass material at the back with a micro curved aluminum frame with 33 percent improvement in strength versus its predecessor. The back cover is flat, available in White, Black, and Green colors.

There is also a variant with Liquid Silver heat-bent glass. But we are not yet sure if it will be available in the Philippines.

Underrated design, legit premium feel

Our unit is in White and it definitely looks beautiful. Without a case, its glass camera hump might make it a little wobbly when placed on a flat surface. The boxy hump on the upper right of its back containing its large camera sensors is big, so it will really be better if you put a case.

The device also has a micro curved aluminum frame promising 33 percent improvement in strength versus its predecessor.

Moreover, it has an IP68 rating for dust and water resistance. In particular, it can be submerged in fresh water up to 1.5 meters deep for 30 minutes.
The nice display of the Xiaomi 15
The nice display of the Xiaomi 15

The front uses the Xiaomi Shield Glass. According to the company, this offers 10x better drop resistance than regular glass. It is a 6.36-inch display with a top-center notch, super-slim bezels of 1.38 mm, and sleek corner curves. The result? It has a 94 percent screen to body ratio, allowing a nice immersive overall display experience.

The company is calling this the "Xiaomi Guardian Structure".

The handset feels really solid. But of course, only time will tell if their claims are true.

The phone measures just 152.3 x 71.2 x 8.08 mm, making it very easy to hold. All of its ports and buttons are easy to reach thanks to its compact size. The Xiaomi 15 is a little hefty for its size at 191 grams.

By the way, the phone is packed with Leica-tuned 3x 50MP cameras at the back with Leica Summilux lens. The first camera is a 50MP f/1.62 Light Fusion 900 sensor with OIS paired with a 50MP f/2.2 115-degree ultra-wide sensor and a 50MP f/2.0 2.6x telephoto shooter with OIS.

By default, this phone produced some of the best-looking images we've seen in this category. I particularly liked that details are crisp in different focal points like in ultra-wide, wide, and 2.6x zoom.
2.6x zoom
2.6x zoom

Colors are close to accurate, especially on the ultra-wide and 1x. The zoom adds a little more contrast and saturation, but it is still acceptable, and at least it helps in making Portraits with more accurate proportions. Food shots are impressive with this phone.

Ultra-wide in dim lighting

Like all Xiaomi phones, you can select different filters like the Leica Authentic, Vibrant, and more. It also has one of the nicest black and white filters around.

Even in dim lighting conditions, I'm impressed on how the ultra-wide camera on auto mode handled the highlights and colors. Grain is minimal as well.
1x low light

I mostly used the Leica Authentic for a more natural look. Anyway, you can see how crisp the photo above is even in the dark. For me, it's one of the most capable point and shoot low light photography phones so far.

While the selfie camera has some beautification by default, it will not over enhance your features. This ranks among the most detailed I've seen. Even dim lighting, the colors didn't fade that much and noise is minimal. The edge detection of its Portrait mode is also on point. Impressive.

I barely touched the surface on what its cameras can do. I'm pretty excited to try the rest of its features, including the several Leica filters, do more low light tests, and check how good its 4K 60fps back and front videos are.

As of the moment

AnTuTu score of Xiaomi 15
AnTuTu score of Xiaomi 15

The Xiaomi 15 is the first high-end Xiaomi smartphone in years that I'll be using as one of my primary devices for the rest of the year. Considering I have access to nearly every top-tier smartphone on the Philippine market, that speaks volumes.

It's not the company's flagship, but it delivers flagship-level performance for LESS.

So far, this handset is definitely sleek-looking and handy. The display is bright and vibrant with up to 3200 nits. The overall operation is super smooth due to its top-of-the-line chipset (super fast with bearable heating under heavy tasks) and the battery can last for an entire day.

The best feature of this device so far is its camera system. It is highly capable and enjoyable to use.

The price is also more affordable compared to most smartphones with flagship chips and high-end overall specs. The 256GB version retails for PHP 45,999 while the 512GB variant is priced at PHP 49,999.

I am excited to try all of its new GenAI features in the next few days as well.

So far, this can give other more expensive flagships a run for their money.

Japanese consumer goods company Elecom launched the first power bank in the world powered by sodium-ion.
Elecom launched the first sodium-ion power bank in the world (9,000mAh/45W)
Sodium-ion (Na+) power bank

Friendlier to the environment than lithium-ion

According to the company, sodium is friendlier to the environment, as it is more abundant and easier to produce than lithium (less pollution, less toxic). Sodium-ion (Na+) batteries also perform well even in extreme -35-degree Celsius temperature, up to 50 degrees Celsius and are more resilient against thermal runaway fires. Moreover, they have a service life of 5,000 cycles or 10x more than 500 cycles of standard lithium-ion batteries.

Note that this is different from sodium chloride, also known as salt.
Colors of the sodium-ion power bank

The power bank comes with the model number DE-C55L-9000, is available in Black or Light Gray colors. It comes with 9,000mAh capacity (3x 3,000mAh) with up to 45W fast charging. It has a USB-C PD (45W) and USB-A (18W) ports. It also has a low current mode for smaller devices like earphones and other wearables.

Its input port supports up to 30W of fast charging and could be recharged in approximately two hours.
It can be used to charge even laptops
It can be used to charge even laptops

The slight downside is it is thicker and heavier than lithium-ion power banks as it has lower energy density. It measures 106 x 87 x 31 mm and weighs 350 grams.

DE-C55L-9000 key features

  • Black, Light Gray colors
  • 9,000mAh Sodium-ion battery

The upcoming audio gear is set to debut this March 20 alongside a rumored Foldable Pura smartphone.

This HUAWEI FreeBuds 6 is expected to bring an enhanced sound experience combined and is teased to be a smarter earbud with the help of AI.

On the other hand, the charging case seems to be using the same pebble shape though the difference is that the brand's logo is now visible compared to the previous model without a logo.

With the FreeBuds 6, fans may anticipate enhancements in audio quality, along with improvements in active noise cancellation (ANC), battery life, and the inclusion of new AI-driven features.

The usual September yearly release of the new iPhones is still quite far, but reliable-looking leaks have started showing up already.
A glimpse of the next iPhones?

The possible design of the 2025 iPhones?

Known Apple leaker Sonny Dickson recently shared images of the possible official "design blanks" for the iPhone 17 family. Based on the photo he shared, the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17 Pro Max, and the alleged iPhone 17 Air will be included.

Design blanks are unprocessed or semi-finished materials designed to be customized and transformed into a final product.

What's new is they have a rectangular camera hump to house the cameras. The "Air" model has a more Google Pixel-like hump while the iPhone 17 has many similarities with the current iPhone 16. All models have the MagSafe, Capture Button, Action Button, power key, and volume rocker.

The iPhone 17 Pro Max will be the biggest of the bunch. The iPhone 17 Pro Max and iPhone 17 Pro have 3 cameras. The Air has a single cam. The iPhone 17 comes with two cameras.

The Air is obviously the slimmest of the bunch. But, the exact measurements are still unconfirmed.

Let's all wait for the official details.
